SERVICE LEARNING

Our Service Learning and Outdoor Adventure programs are based at Bajul Eco Lodge within West Bali National Park, also referred to as SERC: Scientific Education Research Centre, far away from the tourist zones and immersed in nature as well as the traditional Balinese culture and way of life.

You’ll be working alongside local community conservationist and educator Pak Nono, from the “Friends of Menjangan” local community initiative. You’ll learn the importance of reef and mangrove ecosystems and take part in activities to help preserve these. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of the forest ecosystem and assist the local community in clearing invasive species. You’ll also be challenging yourself through a forest hiking adventure and snorkeling while reef monitoring.

Service and Outdoor Learning Programs are combined with our Medewi Surf Camp Program only 1 hour away. At both camps we combine technology with service by using the “Clean Swell App” in our efforts help address plastic pollution.

Reef Check
Service Project

Volunteer work assisting reefcheck.co.id and “Friends of Menjangan local community initiative” with reef monitoring, recording data on waterproof tablets while snorkeling. Gain education and insight on reef conservation, local community and cross-cultural understanding, improve your communication and teamwork skills.

Mangrove Estuary Service Project

You’ll be learning about the importance of mangrove ecosystems and the impact of plastic on them. You’ll be collecting and categorizing plastic found within the mangroves for the local “Friends of Menjangan” recycling centre. While sorting plastics, you’ll also learn how to make useful products from plastic such as eco-bricks.

West Bali Forest
Service Project

As you go on a forest hike, you’ll learn about the threats facing the monsoon forest. Your service project will be to help to clear invasive species, while gaining knowledge on endemic species and forest conservation. You’ll also have the opportunity to plant endemic tree species.

Outdoor Adventure and Cultural Immersion

We also offer other Outdoor Adventure and Cultural Immersion programs located in a traditional Balinese village, to combine with our Surf Camps.
